Representation in Court, Tribunal and Board Proceedings
The firm's advocacy and litigation services are provided by Chris Leahy, a former Sydney barrister and senior counsel.
Chris has developed Liston Legal's litigation practice which continues to expand. After many years as a specialist advocate, Chris brings experience and learning to his role as the firm's litigator.
In addition to representing and appearing for the firm's clients in court and tribunal proceedings, other legal firms retain Chris through Liston Legal to advise and appear in court or tribunal proceedings.
After graduating in Arts and Law at the Australian National University in Canberra, Chris joined Allen Allen & Hemsley (as it was then known) in Sydney where he worked for three years in the firm's security and property section.
He was admitted to the NSW Bar in 1978 and was appointed senior counsel in 2002.
Chris was primarily briefed as a trial advocate. He regularly appeared in the District and Supreme Courts, the Dust Diseases Tribunal, the Land and Environment Court and Local Courts. He also appeared in the Federal Court, the Family Court, Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of the ACT, the NSW Court of Appeal and High Court of Australia.
The advocacy and advice work Chris was retained to undertake included commercial and property disputes, crime, compensation claims, professional negligence claims against doctors, lawyers and other professionals, product liability claims, insurance disputes, estate litigation including disputed wills and claims for provision, local government litigation, environmental prosecutions and family and de facto disputes.
